C-Hing:
I hardly buy any firearm at Cow Palace (not never).
1. Price at CP show is usually 20% more than local store. Some local stores who show up at CP are City Arms and High Bridge – and they are not cheap to start with (doing business in SF is not easy, I understand). Other vendors are from out of town – so if you buy a firearm at the CP show, you have to register with one of the local FFL on site (instead of going to S Cal or drive 2 hours to another city) and pick it up later.
2. Limited selections of firearm – they have the usual pistols, such Glock, Sig, SA XD, etc. Nothing fancy.
3. They do have bolt action rifle and now lots of AR upper onsite – good for “looking” and “touch” – yet: not cheap. They ask for an OLL (223) for $250, WTF???!!!
4. Last time I bought a firearm at CP – a guy (not dealer) was selling 2 Winchester Model 92 Lever action (in 44 mag) with consecutive serial number for a total of $1k – too good to pass…
For regular pistol (non-fancy ones), I will go to Target Master (Milpitas) – they have the most selections in store and best price in town. Keep in mind that you have to deal with the stupidity of the people who work there. It really sucks there.
For fancy 1911 (such as high end Wilson, Baer or STI), I will order from Irvington arm in Fremont. I also bought pistol from Valkyrie Arm (they moved from Great Mall to Santa Clara now) through the SSL – therefore I can by pass the stupid CA DOJ list. Both Irvington Arm and Valkyrie are AR friendly as well. Keep in mind that I used to purchase pistol out of state and ship to local FFL to save $$. Not anymore! CA DOJ requires all local FFL to collect tax on the firearm – so it is a wash on the price. The price of the firearm + shipping (usually $40) + FFL (usually $80-100: depending on FFL) + DROS + tax… so don’t buy it remotely unless is something you can not get locally.
Last - before the election in coming November, I plan to get another AR15 before the price goes up (it will go up again, for sure during election time) – may be a Smith & Wesson M&P AR15 for around $1k.
