Singers lost their voice somehow in their old age but their life experience usually make their singings more receptible.

Not my point at all; that's what he said himself. He said he had lost his golden age in singing, when he had lots of money and addicted to drugs, and he left behind his singing career for decades!

Yes, blackbird has another meaning similar to 'stand up again', or a bird with broken wing, and flies again for the first time.

Cat Steven/Yusuf Islam abandoned his music career, but returned to the public spotlight after years, and have been staying there ever since. Interesting, right?
