If you ride a 20 lb road bike to a race, you can forget about winning especially for mountain stage.
The UCI mininum weight requirement is 6.8 KG or around 15 lb.
Most racing road bike will come in around 16 lb.
A lot of road bikes are now down to 12-13 lb range.
The fastest diamond frame road bike (I am excluding bikes like racing recumbents) is actually time trial or triathlon bikes, we don't see them in a road race because they are poor in manuverbility. |
