Full metal is nice but at 2.8-5.8 it is a pretty slow lens.  At $800 USD MSRP it's even more expensive than some beginner DSLR... I wonder how big it feels in hand, since it's a major selling point.  DSLR-like quality at a smaller package.

同M4/3差唔多,咁真係唔細喎!
同埋ISO去到12800(咁即係1600左右都應該仲幾靚下)

I really hope this is not another one of those Canon's trick to just get people to buy a camera.  I mean the idea is good but it is not as small as a 4/3 camera and it doesn't have a interchangeable lens system but yet it cost more than one.  My final judgement is really after I get to test one out but that won't be for another 2 months.

I like the idea of Canon

G1X is not a sucessor of G12, the most significate element is its big sensor:


The sensor is larger than 4/3 system, with its lesser pixels count, the picture quality can be closed to 7D.

I think this is the answer of Canon to mirrorless system:
- Both Canon & Nikon don't want their mirrorless camera competes with their low end DSLR. They both want to put some drawback into their new model.
- Nikon solution is CX sensor, a 2.7X small sensor
- Canon solution is non-changeable lens

I like Canon approach, if the overall size of G1X is pocketable!

照咁睇,呢部野真係幾唔錯
亦可以睇成係CANON在無反的前哨戰
話唔定CANON的無反SENSOR就是以此SIZE作準

Here is a pic of the camera in hand.  Pic is from Canonrumors site.  Definitely looks a bit bigger than a 4/3 camera and not very "pocketable" ...hmmm

Yeah it is kinda big for "pocketable" camera.  I'm not sure if I want that in my pant pocket anyways, if I do my wife would think I'm very "happy" to see her

The body size is reasonable because Its sensor is larger than m4/3 and got a higher-ratio and faster zoom too.  Still way smaller than a DSLR.  If priced well, this will be a winner!

ah it doesn't look too big vs. the GX1.  Now if the price is less than the stated 800 USD that Canon wants....
