Understood – unfortunately unless you are in the Datacenter – 99% of the job can be outsourced (actually, you can also outsource datacenter to third party or co-lo).
Upper management don’t care about people, we are just a piece of meat to them - they just look at ROI or the “bottom-line” – if India is cheaper in labor, why not outsource there so that I (as of management) can have a fatter bonus paycheck?
However, nowadays in US – many companies see that you can NOT outsource everything. The CORE of the business needs to stay within the HQ… you can not put R&D in India (or China) – because those are the bread & butter and where the next innovative product will be, either a new iPad, video games, CPU chips, etc. Certain function can be outsourced but not all.
As of Hong Kong – it is kind of stuck in between (in my humble opinion) – there are certain IT expertise in Hong Kong, but India and China is cheaper and they are no where close to the “nerd-head/rocket scientist” in the Silicon Valley (not stating HK IT is junk, just a general statement – so don’t get mad at me).
