Before the collapse of the USSR, they planned to fire 90 SSM / 1.5 min to sink a US aircraft carrier. Nowadays, this quantity is far from enough.
1. In time of serious crises, the US would deploy at least 2 aircraft carrier to the region
2. Normally, its combat formation is as follows:
a. E2 ECWS x 8
b. F/A18C x 72
c. F/A18E x 48
3. Normally, 8-12 F18 are on combat patrol, each carrying 4 AIM120 + 2 AIM 9X (Total = AIM120 x 32 / 48, AIM9X x 16 / 24)
In combat, the missile hit rate is about 1/3 and they can intercept about 12 enemy planes (80-90% hit rate is lab test result only)
4. 2 carriers are escorted by 8-9 CG47 and DDG51, each carry about 64-80 SM2 Blk II / IV missile, the total is about 650
In 1 min, they can fire 12-18 missles, aiming at 6-9 targets (2 missiles to one target). They can handle 70 targets / min
5. CIWS, RAM and Sea Sparrow + EMS can handle 4-6 targets / min. The total will be around 50
6. To simplify the calculation, one have to fire at least 120 SSM / min to attack the US fleet. That means it need at least 48 FBC1, 18 022 craft plus submarines (Kilo 636, Song and Yuen)
