I had very similar experience in Shanghai. They tried to charge me $3000 for a couple of drinks. I finally spent 3 hours sitting there saying nothing and pushed the price down to 800. If I were you, I wouldn't have paid and just sat there and called my friend in Hong Kong to find out which number tourists could call to complain in such situations. Apart from that, you could call the emergency number and claim that your life is being threatened. They used your "high information cost and time costs" against you. If you had been pesistent enough, they couldn't do anything to you. (Beating you up for the money will constitute an act of robbery, which is very serious as you can call the police afterward.) |
