Stackhouse agrees to deal with Bucks, may play Wednesday
Posted Jan 18 2010 3:31PM HOUSTON (AP) -- Jerry Stackhouse will join the Bucks when they return to Milwaukee and may see action in their next game on Wednesday.
The Bucks signed Stackhouse for the rest of this season Monday, and coach Scott Skiles says the 14-year veteran will be activated for Wednesday's game against Toronto.
The Bucks are in need of a scoring threat after guard Michael Redd suffered a season-ending knee injury last Sunday. Milwaukee played Houston on Monday to finish a six-game road trip.
"We're not signing him to be on the inactive list," Skiles said. "We'll activate him right away and get him in a game. That's our plan."
The 35-year-old Stackhouse played in only 10 games for Dallas last season. He was traded to Memphis in July, then became an unrestricted free agent the next day.
Skiles said he was impressed by Stackhouse's level of fitness in a recent workout.
"He's not in midseason shape or anything, but considering he's been out so long, he was in surprisingly good shape," Skiles said. "We're hoping he can do what he's done in his career, come in and score some points. He's always had a pretty high level of toughness, he's not afraid to attack the rim and get to the line. We're hoping he can do those things for us."
Stackhouse dealt with plantar fasciitis and a bone spur in his right heel last season, his fifth with Dallas. He didn't play after Feb. 21 and he asked for trade possibilities.
Skiles said Stackhouse was taking his physical Monday and the Bucks have no concerns about his health.
"We don't anticipate any issues," Skiles said. "We've been talking the last several days, and it was good to see him work out. He gave us a little bit of a comfort level after we saw him. He's seems really excited about it."
Stackhouse's scoring has steadily declined in recent years, and he averaged only 4.2 points and shot 26.7 percent from the field with the Mavericks last season. But Skiles said Stackhouse was the best immediately available option for the Bucks.
"It's someone like him, or it's D-league type players," Skiles said. "There is a big difference between those two. I don't want to put too much on him. We need to see what he can actually do in an NBA game. It's a long time to be out, and just the speed and timing and those kinds of things take a little bit to get used to. We'll put him out there and see."
Stackhouse has averaged 18.4 points, 3.7 assists and 3.4 rebounds in his career. He was the league's second-leading scorer in 2000-01 (29.8 points) and also averaged 5.1 assists and 3.9 rebounds for Detroit.
Cavaliers get Jamison from Wizards in 3-team trade
WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Cleveland Cavaliers have acquired Antawn Jamison from the Washington Wizards in a three-team trade that sent Drew Gooden to the Los Angeles Clippers.
Washington received Cavaliers center Zydrunas Ilgauskas, a 2010 first-round draft pick and the rights to Emir Preldzic, who was selected in the second round of last year's draft from Cleveland.
The Wizards also received forward Al Thornton from Los Angeles.
Cleveland received guard Sebastian Telfair from the Clippers.
The Cavaliers were looking for one more big forward to bolster their front line and try to make a run at an NBA championship.
They had reportedly been involved in trade talks with Phoenix for Amar'e Stoudemire, but instead ended up with another former All-Star.
Jamison, who had been with the Wizards since 2004, is averaging 20.5 points this season. He was not in uniform for Washington's game with Minnesota on Wednesday.
He left the arena shortly before the game. As he entered his car, all he had to say to reporters was: "Not now."
He did have a message for Wizards' fans. "You know I love them more than they love me."
The Wizards acquired Gooden on Saturday in a trade that sent Caron Butler, Brendan Haywood and DeShawn Stevenson to the Dallas Mavericks, to the Los Angeles Clippers.
Gooden was reportedly seeking a buyout. Unlike his three former Mavericks teammates, he did not practice with the Wizards on Tuesday, but was at shootaround Wednesday morning. He was listed as inactive.
Jamison was an All-Star in both 2005 and 2008, and averaged 20.5 points in 41 games. He missed the first nine games of this season with a sprained right shoulder.
The 33-year-old played his first five seasons with Golden State and after playing the 2003-04 season with Dallas, was traded to Washington. Jamison has a career average of 19.9 points.
Ilgauskas, who is 34, has played his entire 12-year NBA career with the Cavaliers. He was supplanted as the starter center by Shaquille O'Neal this season. He's averaging 7.5 points and 5.3 rebounds this season. His career averages are 13.9 points and 7.7 rebounds.
The 6-foot-7 Thornton has averaged 13.7 in his three-year career with the Clippers.
Telfair, who's 24, will be playing for his fourth team. The former first-round pick has averaged 7.9 points in his career.
It's official. Tracy McGrady is heading to the New York Knicks.
Houston Rockets, Sacramento Kings and New York Knicks have agreed to terms that will involve in a 3-way trade.
According to ESPN...
The Knicks will acquire McGrady and Sergio Rodriguez from Sacramento; the Rockets get Kevin Martin and Hilton Armstrong
from Sacramento, and Jordan Hill and Jared Jeffries from New York.
Houston also will have the right to swap first-round picks with New York in 2011,
and the Rockets also get New York's 2012 first-round pick.
Sacramento obtains Houston's Carl Landry and Joey Dorsey and New York's Larry Hughes.
A source close to the negotiations told ESPN NBA Insider Chad Ford that the Knicks' 2011 pick is top-1 protected, and the 2012 pick is top-5 protected.
The Knicks also reached agreement Thursday on a trade sending Nate Robinson and a second player to Boston for
Eddie House, Bill Walker and J.R. Giddens.

2. The Chicago Bulls made it official on Thursday by announcing they have traded John Salmons to the Milwaukee Bucks for the expiring contracts of Hakim Warrick and Joe Alexander.
The Bucks also have the option of switching first-round picks in this year's draft, provided the Bulls' pick isn't in the top 10. The Bulls added second-round draft choices in 2011 and 2012.

If Amare Stoudemire really in Cleveland, what is he going to do
He cannot co-exist with Shaq when they both at Phoenix Suns.
They will have a harder time to player together.
Amare limited offense and poor defense will kill Cavaliers in long run.
Yes I see him being a good running mate with Lebron and Mo Williams.
He will not help much when the game matters the most.
By adding Antawn Jamison, you got yourself a savvy veteran who can shoot 3s.
He has his own post moves in the paint. He can draws double team and altered the opponent`s defensive assignment.
I see it as a big upgrade at power forward position. He even opens up the lane for Lebron and Shaq.
He will not demand a lot of ball and still able to get the job done.
Stoudemire demands a lot of attention and most importantly, without the ball on his hand, he is not as good as we think he is.
This is how I see the up-coming strategy for coach Mike Brown going to use.
