On 11 April 1983, English post-punk band Modern English released their debut studio album, Mesh & Lace. Heavily inspired by Joy Division, the album is considered a pioneering work of the gothic rock and industrial genres.
It initially panned by certain music media (at the time) although through the decades, rated as one of the finest debut albums of the era. Featuring the original version of the epic 'Sixteen Days' immortalised as a cover version & coupled with the Modern English track 'Gathering Dust' and released as the first 12inch EP by one of the greatest, most adventurous & inspirational musical projects pieced together This Mortal Coil (this version featuring the Ivo Watts-Russell assembled 'super group' made up of members from Cocteau Twins, Colourbox, Cindytalk & of course, Modern English - released in 1983).
