To troubleshooting on your own:

You can try is to do "power reset" on your iPhone, as well as reinstalling WhatApp.

Furthermore,

You can try test your bluetooth device on your friend's working phone.

Also, try test your friend's working bluetooth device on your own phone.

See what happen.
