so if i specializa in UNIX , is that count as programming skill?
UNIX is just an OS, and , a UNIX system, just like a Windows System, covers a lot of different fields.
KERNEL, WM, WEBSERVERS, DB SERVERS, DNS, mail servers, etc. , each with its own specialty.
Programming skills refer to something like C, C+, Pearl Scripts ( which you would already be familiar with ) , Ruby, etc. Or, could be some high level programming stuff like JAVA, SQL, HTML5. Of course if you are soecialized in Unix kernel, you would have acquired much programming skill in C.
Btw, I know someone who graduated from Imperial College, got a job in a fund company. Job is mainly writing Macros for Excels connecting to some bank database via ODBC. Does that count as programming skill? Yes, it certainly does.
The point is, even programming skills are very diversified.
