They don't pay money for the painting. They pay in wine.
The 1945 label is V for Victory.
The 1973 Label (the year Mouton promoted to first growth) was by Picasso. Picasso reject Mouton's offer to use his painting, and this was done after his death in 1973 by I think the daughter of Picasso. May be she love Mouton wines.
The most interesting story about the label is 1993 which is a painting of a naked little girl. The US said that this is child pronography and thus do not allow it to be sold in the US with this label. Mouton refuse to use another painting for those selling to the US, and just leave it blank. |
