If I want the best (high MP), that USD 500 is not important.

If I want it cheaper, D610 is actually very good already.

D750 is like a pro version of D610, whereas D610 is like a Fx version of D7100 due to similar quality.

Lesson is: don't spend so much money until you really want it. In the past a Nikon body will be stable for 5-7 years before changing. Now, no more than 2 years. My D700 feels very solid and it will last many years but with so much improvement so frequently it is hard not to upgrade.

I think the D750 is position at:
1) successor of D700, mean same pro grade body as D800 but with less pixels, for those who think 36MP is too much;
2) Fast FX camera for action photography, but can't afford D4s. I guest D750 will emphasize on pfs, fast focus, enough buffer, etc.  (actually D610 already has 6fps, but a weaker focusing system)

It's D800 Minus.

The D750 has nothing in common with the D610. It is essentially the D800 with a 24 MP image sensor instead of 36 MP and a slightly smaller body. The D750 has the same auto-focus system as the D810. The D750 has the D810's video capabilities with full 1080p at 60 fps which is superior to the D610. The D750 will have a shutter speed of 1/8,000 sec as opposed to the D610 at 1/4,000 sec.
