Because there is only 2 AC in Alsace, and the production there was dominated by a few ultra large producer in particular Trimbach and Hugel, there is no incentives to promote the AC or vineyard as in Burgundy (if Trimbach and Hugel promote vineyard, then people will buy wines from the same vineyards from the small family producers).
These producers then create their own line, such as Clos Saint Hune, Cuvee Fredrick Emile of Trimbach is just like Grange, RWT of Penfold. So it is quite true that it looks like new world wine, with grape variety on the label and a trademark name (instead of region/vineyard name) from the producer. |
