I think 而家唔多人玩靜電 in HK, even in the U.S. ESL (靜電) are expensive, plus usually needs a sub-woofer. Positioning is a must to have good results which is not suitable in average, smaller apartments in HK. it also needs high performance amps to drive and some basic knowledge from the user. Not worth it unless you are much into hi fi. This Martin Logan is not a true ESL system. It is a hybrid design with a dynamic woofer. My personal opinion is ESL speakers sound better if user know what to do and with $$$$. However, this is an endless debate due to strong support of conventional speaker systems. It is just a matter of personal taste, even to audiophiles.
See, 柒喜版主 and I already have different opinion on speaker systems and we both are somewhat knowledgeable. I think the opposite, A good pair of ESL is the best for string and vocals, it's transparency is unbeatable. Very Very Hi Fi...but we both are objective..
It usually take me a long time to setup a system with ESL speakers to fit my taste.. Show room speakers only give an approximation of the tonal quality. It requires good gears and time to make ESL sound good.
OK lar, 1 thousand sq. ft all by myself..true that I lived in bigger place before. I don't need the space since I got divorced. 1.7 is not a huge speaker system anyway.
A bit smaller than 500 ft..it is not big..maybe about 400, I don't know. I could be having a new job soon, I am thinking of moving to a small place too. Nothing for sure yet..
