Last month, Kotaku published images of Taiwanese special forces. They were totally frightening. But Taiwan doesn't have a monopoly on scary troops. Other countries are ready to terrify you, too.P
On Twitter, many Japanese netizens are uploading photos of other scary special forces. Below, you can find some of the most intimidating troops from around the world. You might have seen some of them before, such as the lead frogman image, which previously went viral in the West. Others might be new to you.

Exactly. I was forgetting about EMP.
It is unlikely to ever be used, as low orbit nuclear detonations are basically banned by every convention out there. But theoretically an army that still trains cavalry would have a solid advantage if tanks and airplanes suddenly stopped working. ;)

Most modern aircraft are protected against EMP because they were designed either in the middle of the cold war or after it. The faraday cage around most electronics doesn't prevent all types of radiation, but it does prevent EM radiation.

I'm pretty sure the hard counter to cavalry was perfected over 4 years of field tests 99 years ago.

If you're referring to the machine gun, yeah, I guess that'd be a pretty good counter.
Still, having to face cavalry on foot and in the open would be pretty terrifying.

You don't need EMP strikes to make the guided missiles and drones completely useless. All of those weapons rely on GPS satellites. And guess who is heavily investing in anti-satellite missiles? Exactly, China :)

As a former Marine, I can say with all honesty that I would have very much enjoyed watching a cavalry charge against my unit in Iraq. Soft targets usually don't reveal themselves so easily these days. It would have been a very short cavalry charge.

If I were to hazard a guess, I'd think this unit would be more likely to be used as mobile infantry using horses as transport given the rugged terrain of China.
What comes to mind at that sight.
