No chance for Costco or similar super stores in Hong Kong, it is the buying habit. The apartment we live in Hong Kong is usually small, and when buying from Costco, every item will be in BULK pack; you don't buy 1 pack of Kit Kat but you have to buy the whole box of 24 packs. If you buy 4 items, your store room will be full. So, even the prices are so cheap and quality usually good, Hong Kong people (I mean the majority, not those liiving in luxury flats of 2,500 sq ft) can not afford to store the goods they buy, thus turn back to normal super markets selling individual packs. When I travel to North America, usually I bring 2 extra cartons of family supply, Chocolate, cookies, even large jars of jam and peanut butter. What I like the most is Cashew nuts in big jars, so cheap and so tasty.
I really wish that these kind of stores are available in Hong Kong and we, the middle class can enjoy much cheaper products. |
