A thing about glasses for champagne: I prefer a simple white wine glass to the traditional flutes, even with the Riedel Sommelier series' flute. The Baccarat champagne glass is better with a rounder bowl and they made this etchings in the tappered bottom of the bowl; so ALL the bubbles rise only from the tappered end--very nice.
A burgundy glass is also good esp. with a Blanc de Noir. It is a Pinot Noir after all.
The good old saucer or coupe is definitely no good; in fact it was meant to modelled after the breast of Marie Antoinette (the beheaded wife of beheaded Louis XVI during the French Revolution). Champagne was her favourite drink and she ate macaroons with it. |
