Professional sculptors were putting the finishing touches to their creations on Thursday ahead of the opening of what organisers say is the world's largest sand sculpture festival. Organisers said that 20-thousand tonnes of sand have been used to create the 150 sculptures in the Belgian seaside town of Blankenberge.
Take 33 sculptors, 20,000 tons of sand, mix them together with some water and you get striking visual creations.
Sand sculptors were putting the finishing touches on their work Thursday before what organizers say is the world's largest sand sculpture festival.
Some 150 pieces will be displayed in the seaside Belgian village of Blankenberge.
Work began six weeks ago when bulldozers and cranes delivered tons of sand in blocks.
Then the artists took to the sand with shovels, knives, straws and even paint brushes.
