The day I depart from this world, I promise myself I shall drink a Burgundy, preferably well aged and from the Grands Echezeaux vineyard. The 1991 DRC Grands Echezeaux was where I got started. Back in the mid-nineties, this cost around $1000 (those days there was 90% tax) from Remy fine wines. La Tache was $2500, and you could get discount if purchased by the case.
I still recall domaine Dujac being very friendly, and the American wife of the owner/winemaker welcomed me and my wife to the cellar and tasted through the ranges. We bought a few bottles back and the 96 Clos  de la Roche cost FF400 or so (about 400HK$). We would drink it later on Shek O beach. She then rang up Comte de Vogue, which is next door in Morey, to arrange for us to visit there. The  winemaker from de Vogue then took us down to the cellar to tutor us through the taste between Musingy and Bonnes Mares. Very educational indeed!!!!!
Those were the days.......

With pleasure.
It might be difficult to believe, Bonnes Mares and Musigny are 2 pieces of land just a few kilometers apart, Musingy being only on the west side of Chambolle (neighboring Vougeot) and Bonnes Mares straddles across the towns of Morey (to it's right the Clos de Tart) and Chambolle (east side of it).
Bones Mares tastes more full-bodied, with cherries and tomatoes lingering and slightly more tannic; Musigny is lighter, more elegant and strawberries and raspberries predominate. You really have to taste the 2 together to realize the extraordinary characters of the wines.
Now this is TERROIR.
I am not bragging, but in my height of my tasting ability, more often then not, I  could blind taste out the difference appellations of Burgundy, if the Pinot was made true to the terroir; the easiest being the whole lot of different Chambertins-these are wines o immense elegance and complexity and yet light on its feet.

Yes and no.
I was fortunate enough to have purchased a lot of the big names in the mid to late nineties when they were still affordable, eg. DRC, Rousseau, Dujac, Leroy, Comte de Vogue etc, and I am sitting on a fair stock.
The real problem is what I do with them and theydo  occupy a lot of space in my wine fridges. It seems a bit excessive if Me and my wife just drink, say, a bottle of 95 DRC Grands Echezeaux at home or at a restaurant on our own. AND I don' t want to sell them even I purchased them at one-tenth of of they are worth today; I am really against wine as an investment or commodity to make money from. They are like my own children after all these years and money would not make part with my wines. Besides, once I sell them, there is no way I can afford or be willing to purchase them again in the future. And I have worked hard enough in the last 26 years to put myself in a position where the extra money from selling these wines is not needed. I do bring them out for sharing when some dear and wine-informed friends buy me sumptuous dinners. Luckily I also have children of my own and I can let them taste them when they grow up; they won't be able to aford them.
Burgundy is still good value when compared with Bordeaux. Try to buy good negociant bottlings  of Grand Cru from not the best vintages ( say 1995, 1997, 2000, 2006, 07, 08,  or even 1991etc) and they can still be had for less than HK$1000. Save up and drink less and spend less on inferior quality stuff and u can afford it once in a while.

I always look through the windows of Watson's Cellar. A bottle of DRC Le Tache costs over 50K HK. I bought a bottle of Chateaunef de Pape wine in Mark and Spensor near by ,also one of the Burgundy wine for $500 ! The
taste was not familiar with the Bordeaux, such as Chateau Latour or Ch. Lynch Bage, which were smoother ! I
have a long journey to learn !

Try Chateau Rayas and you will change your perspestive on CDP; the fragrance of Rayas is so unique that you will never forget the bouquet once you have smelled it and forever you can blind-taste/smell it out
Traditional styled CDP is a league on its own and not inferior to a great Burgundy. By traditional style this means no new oak and it accompnies Asian cuisine well.
