For heavy riders I would not recommend folding bike nor MTB, instead I would buy a steel frame touring bike with heavy duty 36 spoke wheels. The following bikes are almost indestructible:
1. Trek 520
2. Surly Long Haul Trucker or Disc Trucker
3. Bianchi Volpe
4. Fuji Touring
5. Jamis Aurora
6. Rocky Mountain Sherpa
All of the above bikes are within your HK$10,000 budget and they can also be used for long distance world tour if you have the aspiration.
