Elderston is a small vineyard but not boutique. It is still a mass producer.
If you are spending over A$100, I highly recommend Moss Wood Cabinet Sauvignon or Cullen Diane Madelein Cabinet Merlot. They are not as oaky and heavy as Command. You can keep these wine 15-20 years easy. Soft tannin and well balanced.
For the brother going to Adelaide, I would suggest him going to the followings:
Coonawarra - Majella,Parker, Wynns, Yalumba and Katnook.
Barossa - Penfolds, Henschke,Seppelts, Greenock Creek, Peter Lehman,Rockford
Clare Valley - Leasingham, Petaluma
Of course, don't forget to go to Maghill Estate Restaurant in the outskirt of Adelaide. You can have good food and order Grange Hermitage by the glass. It is the Lafite of Australia wine.
All these vineyards are household names Australian wine. You can say it is like ABC.
They are also next to each other. So it can done in a day if you are in a hurry.
