With over 41 cm in length, 16 cm less in height, the face is radically different. Especially the lines are really successful with a real identity, a personality. A200 1.8-litre CDI BlueEFFICIENCY with a seven-speed automatic transmision. With an official combined fuel economy of 65.7mpg, CO2 emissions of 114g/km, and a 0-62mph time of 6.2, it ticks a lot of boxes. BlueEFFICIENCY or A 250 Sport. In both cases the engine develops 155 kW (211 hp) and a maximum torque of 350 Nm from 1200 to 4000 rpm. Performance is at sports car level, with acceleration from zero to 100 km/h in 6.6 seconds and a top speed of 240 km/h. Nonetheless it has the best fuel consumption in this class at 6.1 l/100 km, and CO2 emissions of 143 g/km (A 250 BlueEFFICIENCY).
Standing as much as 160 millimetres lower on the road than the preceding
model, the new A-Class communicates design and dynamism at the very first glance. This radical form language, presented and enthusiastically acclaimed around the world with the Concept A-CLASS, was consistently implemented in the series production car. The appearance of the new A-Class reflects this new Mercedes-Benz design strategy. The result is what is known as a two-box design with a distinct character of its own, a sportily emotive exterior and an exceptionally high-quality feel to the interior.
The A-Class is a five-seater model. The rears seats provide room for three
passengers, despite looking like two individual seats with their sporty design. The boot volume is 341 litres, based on the VDA standard. If the rear seat backrests are folded down, its capacity jumps to 1157 litres. In all models the seat backrests feature a 60:40 split can be folded forward individually. The width of the luggage compartment between the wheel housings is 1050 mm.
The basis for all three petrol engine variants in the new A-Class is the all-aluminium M 270 engine with two chain-driven overhead camshafts and four-valve technology. This power unit is extremely versatile, and will also be gradually introduced into larger model series. In this way it also contributes to a sustained reduction in production costs. The four-cylinder can be installed transversely (M 270) or longitudinally (M 274), and combined with front, rear or 4MATIC all-wheel drive, and also with a manual, automatic torque converter or dual clutch transmission. Sporty elegance characterizes the BRABUS bodywork program for the new Mercedes A-Class. It not only sets attractive visual highlights, it also further optimizes the car's aerodynamics. All components are manufactured in OEM quality from high-grade polyurethane.
The BRABUS front spoiler for the AMG Sport equipment line is designed to be attached to the lower part of the fascia. It gives the A-Class an even more dynamic appearance. But that's not all: The shape of the spoiler was optimized in the wind tunnel and further reduces aerodynamic lift on the front axle. A BRABUS rear spoiler for further reducing lift on the rear axle is under development.
The BRABUS rear-fascia insert for the AMG Sport bumper is shaped like a diffuser. Its custom-tailored cutouts provide the perfect backdrop for the four tailpipes of the BRABUS stainless-steel sport exhaust system.
BRABUS alloy wheels in OEM quality add even more fascination to the new A-Class and give it even more agile handling. For this purpose the BRABUS suspension engineers and test drivers have developed custom-tailored tire/wheel combinations with diameters of 17, 18 and 19 inches.
The largest option for the Mercedes compact class features BRABUS 8.5Jx19 wheels that come in five striking designs: Monoblock E, F, Q, R and S. The BRABUS technology partners Continental, Pirelli and YOKOHAMA supply the matching high-performance tires up to size 255/30 R 19 on the rear axle.
The BRABUS sport springs for the Mercedes A-Class were developed specifically for use with sporty low-profile tires. Extensive driving tests resulted in an optimal symbiosis of sporty handling and a high level of ride comfort. What is more, the ride-height lowering by about 25 millimeters also benefits the car's looks.
BRABUS offers the world's largest engine tuning program for Mercedes-Benz automobiles. The top priority in all BRABUS engine developments is the symbiosis of high performance, excellent running smoothness, exemplary eco-friendliness and durability beyond reproach. BRABUS recommends high-performance lubricants from MOTUL. Performance tuning for the gasoline and diesel engines of the new Mercedes A-Class is in the final stages of development.
The fully stainless-steel BRABUS sport exhaust system with two chrome-plated tailpipes on the right and left side of the vehicle is available for all A-Class engines. The exhaust system produces a sporty but never obtrusive exhaust note.
BRABUS also offers numerous refinement options for the interior of the new A-Class. The portfolio includes bi-color stainless-steel scuff plates with BRABUS logo, matt anodized BRABUS aluminum pedals and door lock pins.
