Inhabit the Amazon basin in northern South America.
One species of fish genus 1 with generating capacity of 600 ~ 800 V.
Electric organ of this species, which was changed to the cells referred to as "power plate" of the muscle cells. (Electric organ accounts for about four-fifths of the length)
Head side is more positive electrode, the tail is in the negative pole (electric catfish and vice versa).
Because fatty tissue accumulated in abundance in the body acts as an insulator, it does not itself be electrocuted. (. A little is seems to shock)
