此曲1971年由作詞人 Norman Gimbel 與作曲家 Charles Fox 两人特别為
一位形像清新, 歌聲優雅嘅年輕女民歌手 Lori Lieberman 而撰冩, 歌詞正
寫出此小妮子嘅内心真情, 佢亦係此曲第一原唱歌手, 可適未被樂迷關注。
及後曾要請 Helen Reddy 再録唱, 她亦承認曾被應要主唱此曲, 但對此曲
"Killing Me Softly With His Song" 不甚喜歡其名, 且漫不經心而拖延回應,
直至1973年被 Roberta Flack 唱至红遍樂壇而再被受注目。
Lori 曾多次被問及此曲時每感媔婰, 但仍稱喜見此曲之成就, 因為此曲靈感
之源係由佢開始, 再被追問何來靈感時而直稱因初遇 Don McLean 而起,
令很多樂迷, 業界均大感驚訝 !
一位生於美國, 成長於瑞士, 當年芳齡20嘅 Lori Lieberman, 跟朋友笫一次
到一間名為 "Troubadour 詩人歌者" 埸所作樂, 正直Don McLean場内献唱
"Empty Chair" 一曲, 當時被 Don 之俊朗及才華所着迷

之遇, 驅使Norman撰冩出此曲, 原曲名為 "Killing Me Softly With His Blues",
幾經 Lori 一番說服, 最後 Norman接纳將 "Blues" 改為 "Song"
此曲經Roberta Flack唱出後亦成另一談論, Don McLean 開始對 Lori 有所
關注及認識, 並直認不違稱欲與 Lori 見面, 因從未想過此曲會因佢自己而撰寫,
並驚訝講: " 聽過 Roberta與 Lori此曲不同版本後, 無可否認對她倆甚感謙恭,
對創作與演譯者能成為一體, 此曲是無可比擬 "。" Lori 找錯時空與對像了,
我的 "Empty Chair" 一曲, 盡管輕唱, 豈有如此殺傷魅力呢? "
