I can't agree with you more. Char Siu is BBQ pork/white meat, coated with honey/sugar/sweet hoi sin sauce.
You need a BIG red, like Aussie Shiraz or Amarone. I tend not like sweet wine with main courses, which could destroy your taste buds for other non-sweet wines and your appetite. As suggested above, an Alsatian gewürztraminer or VT riseling are good choices. But we always neglect German Riseling; these fragrant wines make fantastic matches with heavily sauced/spicy/chilly-hot Asian foods. |
