I am getting more and more wondering how much 劉偉民, seems that he just get his knowledge from the internet plus some of his own imagination...
Merlot (or many other varieties like Cab, Shiraz, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc) has very distinguish taste between cool (or moderate) climate and hot climate. Even an average drinker with some basic training can easily tell the difference (I think I can get 90%+ correct on this in blind tasting).
On the other hand, I never heard of Cab and PN planted in the same vineyard (same village/region is possible) because the weather and soil required are so different.
Also most producers in Chateauneuf-du-Pape use only 3-5 varieties. Using all 13 varieties are the exception, and I think there are more producers that use 100% Grenache than those using all 13. If he is counting it the 18 way (which include hybrids), then even Beaucastel is just using 14, not all the 18. |
