To build a bike, you need to determine what you are going to use the bike for;
in this case I was building an ultra light-weight mountain bike for winter use;
I then prepared a build list with all the desirable parts that I want to have on the bike;
shop for the parts from the local bike shops, ebay, parts factories from various sources all over the world,
This is the an example of an actual build-list:
Giant XTC carbon frame 1284g
Pace carbon front fork 600g
Pace V-brake mount 59g
Saddle - Selle Italia SLR gel 169g
Seat post - Thomson Masterpiece 185g
(tuned with ti bolt)
Seatpost binder - Giant 24g
Stem - Syntac F99 (ti-tuned) 96g
Carbon spacer 5g
Eastern Carbon Handlebar 99g
Headset (ti-tuned) 65g
Front wheel - American Classic 635g
Rear wheel - American Classic 764g
Tubes 125g
Rim tapes 14g
Tires - Hutchison 945g
Quick release skewers 43g
Brakes - Avid SL tuned with Aztec cart. 275g
Cable 295g
Cage - Token 18g
Pedals - Exulstar 210 214g
Grip 65g
Brake levers - Extralite 65g
Shifters - XTR SL-M970 224g
Chain KMC X10SL 223g
Crankset XTR 790g
Front derailleur XTR M-971 145g
Rear derailleur RD M-970GS 189g
Cassette KCNC 152g
Grease and Misc. 30g
Once you get all the parts together, slowly and meticulously put the bike together or if you don't want to get your hands dirty just bring all the parts to the bike shop and have the mechanic put it together for you.
The following is the result of the build.
