If you plan to go there,  consider buying a train pass.   Children under certain age can accompany their parents  free of charge when travelling with a train pass.

Usually I fly to Frankfurt, arriving early morning. Pick up rent-a-car (pre Booked) . Then drive to Switzerland and have lunch there. Only 3 hours from Frankfurt.

It must be a great experience  !   I have never drove in Europe.  I will try driving a car next time.

You better go to Germany first, the cars are better, and prices are cheaper.
