On 27 November 1981, JON AND VANGELIS released their evocative single I'LL FIND MY WAY HOME, an enduring collaboration that showcased the fusion of Jon’s ethereal vocals with Vangelis’ lush, synthesised arrangements. Originally excluded from the first edition of The Friends of Mr Cairo, the song’s unexpected chart success led to its inclusion as the opening track on later pressings, marking a rare instance of a single reshaping an album’s structure.
This collaboration was part of a broader musical partnership that spanned over a decade. After narrowly missing a chance to join Yes in the mid-1970s, Vangelis and Anderson forged a creative bond that produced four albums. Their work often juxtaposed the esoteric with the accessible, producing hits like “I Hear You Now” and the Donna Summer-covered “State of Independence.” These songs balanced philosophical musings with pop sensibilities, a blend that resonated with audiences despite the duo's experimental leanings.
Though the duo would continue to create music together, releasing albums such as Private Collection (1983) and Page of Life (1991), "I'll Find My Way Home" remains a defining moment in their catalogue.
