Thanks for a useful article.
The only supplemental I would like to add is that the engine should be run for about a minutes before moving, because the oil light extinguished simply means that the oil pressure is up (5+ psi) at the oil filter point, the oil is not yet circulated properly at the valvetrain (25+ psi), and the little "spoon" at the bottom of the crankshaft had not created the "oil mist" for the crankcase lubrication.
Further, during the night, the oil drained back to the crankcase (unless you have a dry sump engine), and it need time for the oil to circulate thruout the engine.
Usually let the engine run unloaded for 30 second to a minute before moving the car is best. |
