It is not true that diabetes is caused by failure of the body mechanism to convert glucose into energy. Actually it is due to failure of the body to convert glucose into another substance (glycogen) for storing within the body for necessary future use. To convert glucose into glycogen, insulin (胰島素) is required. People suffer from diabetes either because their body cannot secrete sufficient insulin (Type I diabetes) or even though their insulin is sufficient it cannot be activated (Type II diabetes). That western medical practitioners have no way of helping diabetes patients other than by injecting insulin is definitely not true, in particular for Type II diabetes patients, who are really not short of insulin. There are plenty of other drugs that can help (but not cure), such as metformin and linagliptin, etc. but more important is that patients have to help themselves by maintaining a suitable diet and regular physical exercise.
Chinese and western medicines may have different ways of interpreting and curing diseases, but both of them are based on long period of research and development. It is not fair to say which one is superior and which one is inferior to the other. |
